Midland-Odessa Announced as newest team to join the Lonestar Conference

December 13th, 2022- The Midland-Odessa area will once again see great NPSL action this summer as the NPSL has announced that the former Midland-Odessa Sockers organization has been purchased by an ownership group led by Jason and Melina Cannon.

“Midland-Odessa has a long and storied history within the NPSL,” NPSL Managing Director Cindy Spera said. “We are committed to continued investment in the West Texas market and look forward to the many exciting rivalries in the area. We expect the Lone Star Conference to continue to grow and thrive in the years to come.”

The team will now be called West Texas FC and will play their home matches at Astound Broadband Stadium in Midland, Texas. The facility has seating for 15,000 and includes ample parking, VIP suites, and is part of the larger Scharbauer Sports Complex. Midland’s long history with minor league baseball and competitive high school football teams were driving factors that prompted the development and eventual construction of the complex.

"Irving FC is excited to welcome back West Texas FC to the Lonestar Conference. Midland-Odessa has a rich soccer history that we believe is going to continue to help Texas be the soccer hotbed of the nation!" said Scott Fellows CEO "We believe that the Lonestar Conference is one of the toughest conferences in the nation, and with Midland-Odessa back in the fold, it only raises the bar, for soccer in the state! We look forward to being competitors on the field, but business partners off the field."
